How are monetary donations utilized?

Over 86 percent of the Mother Baby Foundation’s expenditures directly support education, treatment for emotional and mental health, and goods provision for new moms and babies.  Although the Foundation pursues grants for specific types of education and treatment, the majority of our expenditures are currently funded by monetary donations.

The Foundation works continually to limit costs, so we attempt to make each donation go a long way.  As examples:

With a donation of $20, the Foundation is able to procure diapers, gently used or new clothing items, a blanket and small toy, and a parenting book to bundle into a gift bag for a needy mother.  In today’s economic environment, our partner healthcare providers are bringing to our attention more and more families in need of such essential baby care items.  Could you imagine a baby coming home to an environment where the parents cannot afford diapers or do not even have money for clothing to keep the child warm?  It is happening in our own community!!!!

With a donation of $50, the Foundation is able to provide a therapy session for a group of women who are facing overwhelming emotions resulting from the birth of a child, ranging from “baby blues” to full on postpartum depression.  Without this offering, these women might incur an out-of-pocket expense of $250-300 EACH for similar treatment.  Most of the women who come to the Foundation for help do not have this kind of money to spend, nor do they have adequate insurance to cover therapy.  Untreated, the women often are not able to provide a nurturing environment in which the baby can prosper, as the mothers themselves cannot prosper.  Again, a gift of $50 can help up to three new mothers start to remove the veil of overwhelming emotion.

With a donation of $200, the Foundation is able to provide cribs for five families whose babies would otherwise sleep in a box or drawer.  This is reality!  The Foundation has been contacted repeatedly by trained healthcare providers who have encountered a family that does not have the means to provide a place for the baby to sleep.  We can make a difference.

The remainder of the Foundation’s expenditures are focused on creating proper infrastructure and on growing our young organization.  Since our inception in 2007, we have invested in basic organizational needs like a phone line to field inquiries and also in communication methods like our program flyers. Our staff and board of directors work tirelessly on a volunteer basis, keeping the majority of our monetary donations available for use in the PEP Talks, Triad Nursing Moms, Nutrition and Baby Bundles programs.
